ATTRACTIONS IN CYPRUS

Famagusta and Varosia - an old and historically interesting city, considered by some to be the most beautiful city in Cyprus. Now it is more like an open-air museum, especially Warosia, or the City of Ghosts. The division of Cyprus was particularly damaging to this city. Once a luxurious resort with beautiful sandy beaches, now surrounded by a fence it is haunted and if someone likes thrillers, it is worth visiting the part of this abandoned city where ghosts rule. In Famagusta itself we can find the historic Mosque of Mustafa Ali Pasha, once the cathedral of St. Nicholas, atmospheric streets with characteristic buildings, shops and restaurants. We can also drink freshly squeezed pomegranate juice.

Nicosia - the capital of Cyprus and the largest city of the island. The turbulent history literally divided Nicosia in half. One side belongs to Southern Cyprus called Greek and the other to Northern Cyprus called Turkish. Separated from each other by a demilitarized zone of several dozen meters, constituting the border of countries, which we can freely cross after passing passport control or presenting an ID card. Both parts are different, both interesting.

Kyrenia - ancient city of the ancient kingdom of Cyprus. Once an important port city with a beautiful old town and a castle. Today it is also modern and the entertainment center of Northern Cyprus.

Golden Beach - the most beautiful sandy beach in Cyprus, located on the Karpaz Peninsula. Incredibly golden and soft sand and turquoise water encourage you to relax.

Alagadi Turtle Beach - beach of birth and migration of turtles

Donkeys - wild donkeys begging for carrots from tourists are a tourist attraction of this region. They can most often be found on the roads of the Karpaz Peninsula, so when you go there, don't forget to take some of these delicacies with you.

Kantara Castle - an amazing building on the top of the mountain is one of the most impressive attractions. The access itself is quite interesting and the views from the castle ruins are amazing.

Bellapais Abbey - a gem for visitors to Northern Cyprus. A Gothic building erected by the Augustinians as an important center for pilgrims after receiving the relics of the Holy Cross. A beautiful town on the hills with an amazing panorama and atmospheric restaurants on the slopes of the mountain.

Buffavento Castle - one of the three fortresses, built at an altitude of 940 above sea level, the highest between the fortress of St. Hieronim and the Kantara castle. It served as a guard tower and a prison.

Salamis - ancient city from the 12th century BC, city of Persian battles, Battle of Salamis, the apostle Barnabas lived here , Saint Paul, they preached the word of God. There was also an uprising of Jews here, who murdered the entire non-Jewish population. A place of worship of Zeus.
Castle of St. Jerome - one of the three fortresses defending the coast. Built on a rock at an altitude of 732 m above sea level. First, in this place, St. Jerome built a hermitage and after his death he was buried here. A monastery and a temple were built around his grave, which later turned into a fortified castle.
